Hey - I’m Katie, a product designer at Target in Minneapolis. I design to solve riddles; I create to feed my curiosity. I’m also a gardener, gamer, biker, and child at heart.
I did not dream of becoming a product designer when I was a child. I dreamt of being an Olympic figure skater, a ballerina, a potter, a poet, a lawyer, a therapist, or maybe a witch. These dreams led me to study dance in college, which gave me the beautiful opportunity to perform and teach dance professionally. From there, my dreams took me to Portland; more and more, I sought out jobs that put me in communities of passionate helpers and empathetic creatives. The pandemic hit, and while I researched graduate programs for psychology, my design friends nudged me toward UX. 4 years later, my dream is to design products that help people.
Some of my current career goals are:
To work on big, interesting problems on an iterative and mature UX team
To have more opportunities to design for non-desktop experiences
To work on externally-facing products outside of the Enterprise space
I’m excited to work on teams that:
Foster a sense of belonging and community
Embrace mistakes and celebrate all wins, big or small
Are enthusiastically collaborative and genuinely interested
A few side quests I’m working on are:
Exploring successful ways to implement UX metrics and analytics on a product team
Learning more development skills
Continuing to polish my content design and microcopy skills
